Project's Description

The INLET project seeks to introduce and demonstrate techniques that will promote language learning and as a result motivate a mass audience to learn foreign languages.

The Olympic Games scheduled for summer 2004 in Athens present a situation where in the confrontation of multi languages and cultures plus the overall presence of the less spoken Greek language motivate for and impose language acquisition. In the framework of the proposed project the necessary material for the dissemination of language learning and the promotion of the Greek language will be developed and distributed. A series of TV films will be developed and broadcasted through TV channels in different European countries. Leaflets and posters especially designed and developed will be distributed to visitors in Greece during the Olympic Games of 2004. Multi-media messages (SMS and MMS messages) will be sent to the visitors' mobile phones and PDAs upon their arrival presenting simple samples of Greek dialogues.

The INLET project will demonstrate how individuals may benefit by learning a relatively small number of key phrases without committing to become fluent in any particular language. In this way the project will raise awareness across of the benefits of language learning in general.
