The project's general objectives are:
- to promote the Greek language in the framework of the
Olympic Games of 2004. Considering the organization of
the Olympic Games of 2004 in Athens as an opportunity
for the promotion of the Greek language the INLET project
will indicate innovative ways to promote the learning
and the use of the Greek language as an enjoyable and
personally enriching activity.
- to access a wide scope of audience. This will be achieved
through the broadcasting of special TV spots from the
participating TV channels, dissemination of posters and
leaflets at the International Airport of Athens (Eleftherios
Venizelos) which is the main entrance of foreigners in
Greece, and to Ancient Theater of Epidaurus, which is
one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece.
Additionally SMS and MMS will be sent to the mobile devices
of the visitors upon their arrival.
- to raise citizens' awareness of the multilingual character
of the European Union. English should not be considered
as a "lingua franca". The modern European citizen
should be aware of the equal value of all national languages
within the European Union.
- to encourage and support linguistic diversity throughout
the European Union by presenting linguistic content embedded
in its cultural context.
- to motivate individuals to learn foreign languages by
giving evidence that language learning could be an entertaining
activity.
- to propose a variety of innovative dissemination strategies
for promotion of language learning.
